My Kitchen Inspiration

I love to decorate. It’s one of my favorite things in the world. My mom has always had a passion for decorating and it’s one of the things we shared and enjoyed doing as I was growing up. Our styles are a little different, of course, but she taught me the basics about accessorizing, color, and splashes of things you wouldn’t really expect that can really make a room “pop.”

I love Pottery Barn. It’s one of my go-to magazines for decorating inspiration since the city I live in doesn’t have this store. The above kitchen (although the picture size doesn’t show it as well as I would like) is how I would ideally like the kitchen in the little house to look.

I also think this is darling.

The milk bottle chandelier is the icing on the cake for me. How fitting! Too bad there are no windows in the future kitchen, however, I intend to dress up the sliding glass doors with two long curtains tied back at the sides. (That’s my vision, anyway.) I intend on having white or off-white cabinets and I really like the black countertops in the first picture, but I’m not exactly sure what it is or if the farmer even likes it/wants to pay for it. Sometimes my taste unintentionally gets a little on the expensive side and he has to rein me in.

These kitchens are what sent me on the search for paisley dinnerware of which I found none I liked except for 4 salad plates at Marshalls. Either it’s crazy paisley that’s way too busy all over the plate or it’s just not the colors I was going towards. But, I thought that pattern would look sooooo good in a country kitchen. I also just love paisely. Period. But, I could also do polka dots.

CUTE! But, I try to be gender friendly with the farmer and those are kinda girly.

This one is very country and would look cute, but I’ve never been a real big fan of red. I tried to picture myself loading them in the dishwasher and I thought that would actually look pretty good. (You don’t have to tell me that I’m really weird. I already know this. I’m just really comfortable with you guys.)

Ok, I’ve posted these plates as I’ve found them after searching several sites and wasting a bunch of time. I’ll keep searching and let you know when I find the perfect fit. This is also the first of several decorating posts I’ll be writing. I have family and friends that like to pick my brain a little when it comes to decorating advice, so I thought I’d share some of my dilemmas/likes/dislikes/methods behind the utter madness that somehow evolves into my decorating style.

I also love input, so if you think you have a good idea for my kitchen, tell me about it!

Much love,

The Dairy Maid

  1. I agree, your decorating ideas are great! (I think I’m one of those brain-pickers you were referring to.) I still have yet to find anything satisfactory to put in those random recessed wall areas above the stairs ….lol

    • Hi Peggy! Thanks for stopping by! I’ve searched everywhere and, unfortunately, Pottery Barn no longer has that light and I can’t find anywhere else that carries anything like it, either. =(
